Zakk Wylde Names His Top 5 Albums of All Time

Zakk Wylde has named his top five favorite albums of all time, as well as a new episode of AXS TV’s Stranded video series, which challenges artists to pick just a few records they would take with them if stranded on a desert island.

It’s quite a surprise that the first up from Wylde, who released Doom Crew Inc. with Black Label Society earlier this year, guested on four new Sabbath songs and is now a part of the Pantera lineup. Maybe it’s not a surprise because of the rocker’s penchant for joking around.

There is no explanation for the yacht rock greatest hits record. It’s likely just kidding on that one! Who knew?

The sixth album from Black Sabbath’s first era is called Sabotage and is called a more serious tone by Wylde.

“I love them all, but that’s what I’m feeling today, Ozz always considers the first couple records up to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath the last classic Sabbath record and he doesn’t put Sabotage in there,” he says. I told him I would put his vocal performance on that record up against any of his peers. His performance on that album is very good.

“I have great memories of listening to that album all the time when I was a kid, but the 1974 greatest hits edition is the one that sticks out the most.”

After renewing their wedding vows in Las Vegas, he met the legend. Some of the people who attended were friends of Elton John and went to see him play. When I was 8 years old, my parents got me a book by John, and he signed it.

Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush’s 1978 record Live is the fourth album on the list. The Canadian group has drawn a lot of comparison to Jimi Hendrix, another huge influence on Wylde, and of this record, he says, “The memories I have associated with that album are just a jaw- dropping experience.” It transports me back to when I was a kid.

“When I first started playing guitar, I listened to The Song Remains the Same, which helped shape my playing from an early age.” Jimmy Page’s guitar playing is just amazing. His guitar solo in ‘No Quarter’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is mindblowing.

Dee Snider and Papa Roach are two rockers who have previously guested on the show.

Pantera will be performing at their first four comeback shows later in the year. Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante is also in the lineup.
