Trivium’s Matt Heafy Reveals Pop-Punk Past, Covers Blink-182 With Anthony Vincent

Before Trivium’s Matt Heafy delivered some of the most killer gutturals in metal, he was a pop- punk kid. Heafy shared his past while highlighting a new collaboration he did with AnthonyVincent, with the pair teaming up to cover blink-182’s “dammit” in 20 different styles.

The first band Heafy tried out for was a pop punk band. My tryout song was really sad.

I stopped playing music when I didn’t make it in the band. After a year, I was introduced to Metallica’s black album.

Heafy was flattered when he was offered the chance to cover the song “dammit” for the video, showing off his range.

For this “20 styles” video, he pulls in Heafy for the fun, as he has become one of the more popular YouTube personality showing his vocal range on covers of popular tracks. The beginning allows both musicians to swap off vocals while Heafy plays guitar on a straight up cover. The aggression covering the song was similar to that of Slipknot.

Heafy is able to pull back taking on the track as if done with the vocal approach of Rammstein’s Till Lindemann and also shows off his metal mimicry performing portions dedicated to Amon Amarth, Powerwolf, Meshuggah, Emperor andType O Negative’s

The singer handles a majority of the different styles on this album, taking on David Bowie, The Killers, and others.
