Thousands of people spent the night in line to view the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II and authorities warned mourners to expect a lengthy wait.
The police arrested a man after what they described as a “disturbance” in Parliament’s Westminster Hall, where the queen’s coffin is lying in state.
Someone got out of the queue and tried to get to the coffin. A man was arrested for a public-order offense.
Since the public was admitted to the hall Wednesday, the number of people wanting to farewell the queen has grown. Authorities temporarily stopped allowing more visitors to join the end of the line on Friday.
Volunteers gave blankets and cups of tea to people in line as the temperature dropped. The mourners described the warmth of the experience.
We had wonderful companions and new friends. Chris Harman said the camaraderie was great. I think it was worth it. I’d do it again and again. My queen would be at the end of the Earth.
