There is an element of mystery surrounding the late Queen’s relationship with beauty products, while these icons of fashion have been captured in the pictures of her life. The Queen’s hairdresser requested the shade from the brand’s founder in 1989 and Her Majesty’s nails were painted with a barely there polish. The red lipstick that the Sovereign wore during her coronation was a custom shade created by the French cosmetics brand, Clarins. The brands she granted a ‘Royal Warrant of Appointment’ are some of the most notable clues towards the late monarch’s beauty routine.
A Royal Warrant of Appointment is granted to companies and individuals who regularly supply goods or services to the Royal Household. The holder of the warrant can display the Royal Arms on their product for up to five years. What will happen to the brands that the Queen granted Royal Warrants?
Royal Warrants are usually reviewed a year before they are due to expire, but when the reigning monarch dies, the warrants are void. Unless a warrant is granted by the monarch, the company can’t use the coat of arms over the next two years. Penhaligon’s and Floris are the only brands we can assume will maintain their Royal Warrant after Her Majesty’s death. The warrants were awarded by King Charles III.
