I use my screen time reports to show that I spend most of my day on my phone. You want to know what I’m doing during these hours. I’m trying out new things.
I only use a few apps at a time. Whether they are for working out, recovering, or controlling my home, others are essential parts of my day. I am not sure if I should call it essential, but scrolling my For You Page is always entertaining and educational.
My favorite apps change with the seasons, but there are some I couldn’t live without. If you are familiar with a few of them, you should check them out. Maybe on your new phone? You will see that several are integrated with hardware.
One of the newer apps on my phone is Headspace. It has never been easy for me to find time to be aware, but I need to care for my mental health because of my busy lifestyle. One of the best sleep and relaxation apps is Headspace. It is very welcoming to people who have never meditated before.

2. Apple Fitness Plus
I use the Apple Fitness app on my phone, iPad and Apple TV to work out. Since the launch of Apple’s fitness platform in 2020, I’ve found myself using it more and more. rowing, pilates and audio workouts are included in the class catalog.
I use my Apple Watch Series 8 to close my Apple Watch rings in Fitness Plus but the service recently opened up to allow those without an Apple Watch to work out. If I want to do a yoga practice while my watch is on, that is great.
In the new tab, you can download the fitness app.
3. Oura
Oura is one of my favorites on my phone. My sleep, activity and recovery are tracked by the Oura Ring Generation 3, which is connected to the Oura app. The Oura Ring has a skin temperature sensor, SpO2 reader and heart rate monitor.
The Oura app tells me to get ready for sleep. Unlike a traditional fitness tracker, the Oura Ring is discreet, but still allows me to stay in tune with my body. The Oura Ring costs $299 and the app experience costs $5.99 a month.
You can download Oura on the following platforms:
4. TikTok
I think TikTok is the culprit of my screen time. During the Pandemic, the wildly addictive social media app became popular, but I still use it. TikTok keeps me entertained and sometimes teaches me something new, from videos of cute animals to recipe inspiration.
I record and post videos on TikTok every day. On the Tom’s Guide TikTok account, I break down the latest tech announcements and take a deeper look at products like the Apple Watch.

5. Amazon Alexa
I’m testing the best smart home devices when I don’t test apps. I keep my connected products organized by connecting them to Amazon’s voice activated smart home platform. TheAlexa app allows me to control my devices, create routines, and even use the best skills from my phone.
I can use the app to manage multiple residences and keep an eye on my smart thermostat and other compatible devices.
