There was a lot of new music this week. A Kentucky link-up with fellow Louisville native Jack Harlow was included in the new project, I never felt nun. Ab-soul dropped more clever wordplay on his latest single, “Moonshooter,” and Oakland’s finest, Symba, proved that he’s more than just an elite lyricist with his melodic new song “soul Ties” featuring Rayven Tyler. The best new music this week is from G Herbo.

When Jack Harlow and EST Gee link up on a track, something special is bound to happen, and that’s why they call it “backstage passes”. Two Kentucky natives rap about avoiding fake people as they trade bars on a techno-like trap beat. Jack spits on the song “25 and you broke and talked to me on the internet but you dapped me up when we spoke” There is a smooth cut on the new studio album.
The record needs to be set straight. He raps at the beginning of his song, “I’m a street nigga that got rich” The blue-faced hundreds that they’ve both grown accustomed to thanks to their success as artists are what the “blues” are referring to. The two spent the rest of the song reflecting on their journey from the mud to marble.
Ab-soul’s latest single “Moonshooter” proves that he is only getting better with time. Several double entendres are dropped into two tightly packed verse over a lullaby-like beat. I’m protected by a force, I can’t really explain, but I’m guided by the source and I was the donkey of the day. Fans of the rapper have been waiting for the follow-up to his 2016 project, Do What Thou Wilt, to be released.
Symba has already proven that he is an elite rapper, but his song with Rayven Tyler shows that there is more to the West Coastr than just his rhyme bars. Symba and Tyler sing about all of the reasons why they love and appreciate one another. Symba has an album called Results Take Time.
The fact that he is no longer called “Yung” means that he can stand with some of the biggest names in the business. The southern artist sings, “But don’t stop it, just keep doing what you do, and how could I move with your love in my way?” The bars about love lost in the second verse complete the track.
B-Lovee’s new song “One Time” features J.I the Prince of N.Y, Skillibeng, and Ice Spice. J.I holds down the hook for the melodic rap group by delivering the song’s smooth chorus, while Skillibeng, B-Lovee, and Ice Spice each deliver their own verse. NY drill is having a major moment right now, and “One Time” includes some of the main players of the new guard.
Blood Orange makes music for long car rides with the windows down and that peaceful moment of relaxation after a long day, and his new song “Something You Know” is perfect for that. The song is carried by the singer’s soothing voice and guitar. Listeners should sit down, get a glass of wine, and take a deep breath after listening to something you know.
