With the dust just beginning to settle on the runways and event spaces that housed a plethora of New York Fashion Week designer showcases, the city’s Manhattan and Brooklyn streets are still buzzing with excitement.

While emerging designers such as Luar and No Sesso proved why they should be considered household names, established designers such as Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger proved why they should be considered luxury houses. Extreme shoulders, super-mini bags, colorful knits and shimmering lace all found their way onto the runways, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect to purchase when the warm season arrives.

We have put together a list of the best highlights and pleasant surprises from this year’s New York Fashion Week.

In the past two years, the love affair with New York has been seen by both the Boiler Room showcase and the Times square takeover. For the brand’s return to NYC this year, the focus wasn’t on the clothes, but on the bag.

The collection featured men’s and women’s ready-to-wear items along with updated variations of the Baguette that were co-designed by Tiffany & Co, Sarah JessicaParker and Porter. Utilitarian motifs were displayed on the runway in the form of cargo pants, car coats, bomber jackets, and leather windbreakers.

Kim Jones,Fendi’s artistic director of couture and ladieswear, and Silvia Venturini,Fendi’s artistic director of accessories and men’swear, explored a lot of street style elements.

Peter Do has a magic in his tailoring. By focusing on timeless silhouettes dressed up with contemporary detailing, Do’s design aesthetic manages to successfully enchant the viewer without over- the-top designs or fanciful colors. He doesn’t need them and that makes his tailoring all the more impressive.

The debut of the designer’s men’s line was marked by the Spring/Summer23 collection. Similar in strength to his preceding women’s pieces, the men’s ensemble danced in courage with streamlined suits, side-slit silk trousers, supple leather coats, asymmetrical wrap tops and more. The Peter Do man’s vision is similar to the Peter Do woman’s.

The collection was almost entirely covered in black, white, gray and cream, which gave a constant view of Do’s work. The upcoming runway show by Do was one of the most anticipated. One of the highlights of the week was Do’s collection.

Despite the rain, Tommy Hilfiger’s “See Now, Buy Now” Fall 2022 show went ahead at Brooklyn’s Skyline Drive-In theater on Sunday. There, under transparent ponchos and an army of umbrellas, New York’s glitterati watched as the American designer made his return to New York Fashion Week.

The collection introduced a bevy of oversized silhouettes, injecting volume into striped polo shirts over trousers and dramatic trench coats layered on denim. Embracing a multi-chromatic color story, larger-than-life scarves added the drama to bulkier top silhouettes, while pants debuted roomier and sweaters were first-pick for layering.

Swiftly, viewers took notice of the designer’s new design, which was created in collaboration with illustrator Fergus Purcell and Embossed across most looks. Hilfiger collaborated with a British designer to create a collection of leather jackets and spiked boots.

For the finale, model Alton Mason invited Travis Barker to the affair for a centerstage performance. To the beat of Barker’s drums, the entire collection appeared in unison, showcasing Hilfiger’s collective vision at once: “This is modern prep, for all.”

Surrounded by walls clad in black curtains and a black carpet runway, Luar’s show was definitely a sight to behold. The perfect atmosphere for the new collection was created by the production alone.

The contemporary interpretation of luxury was something that shone about Lopez’s new collection. The LA ALTA GAMA show presented daring reimagined dresses that fused tech and elevated design details, tops with eye-catching boulder shoulders and more. blazers and overcoats appeared in shades of buttercream, French blue and eggshell in the collection.

Lopez used the memories of his Dominican family reunions in the ‘80s and ‘90s to illustrate that the guidelines of luxury do not have to be strict. The clothes can be sexy and bold at the same time. Adding personal touches, fabrications and design styles make for the most confident and inspiring form of modern luxury.

After winning a National Cooper Hewitt/Smithsonian Award for Fashion Design, Willy Chavarria continues to set himself apart from the rest.

Chavarria used New York Fashion Week to church with soft sportswear and refined outerwear in the form of double-breasted and extra-wide lapelled suits. The bell-shaped tops and robes were reminiscent of pre-war Christian Dior and Cristbal Balenciaga women’s creations.

Chavarria’s hometown was mentioned in his collection. The designer put the logos of fresno and sacrdote on the jerseys. He collaborated with a number of American companies to further cement his Latinx perspective.

Staged inside New York’s serene El Jardin del Paraiso, Eckhaus Latta’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection debuted atop a grassy, sun-lit runway to the elegant strums of harpist Mary Lattimore.

Governed by namesake visionaries Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, the collection included abstract metal knit tops and foil harnesses, breezy net dresses and tanks, red-beaded tops and ribboned sweaters, zip-off shorts, fluted skirts and a legion of bubble-inspired statement-makers. Musician Ethel Cain sported an upscale boucle jacket and matching skort in ecru, and Jacob Bixenman debuted a raunchy, avant-garde pant – or “bubble object” as the brand called it – that left one leg entirely exposed under a similarly inflated polo.

It was the knitted ensemble printed with the artworks of Matthew Underwood who made the range impactful. A donation was made in the name of the artist in celebration of his life.

No Sesso turned the lens inward for its Spring/Summer23 collection.
