The New York fashion week is over. Some designers, rappers, and moments that graced NYC with their presence are still being considered.
Designers presented their Spring/Summer23 collections on nine days this season. They didn’t disappoint but they exceeded our expectations, and that’s what stuck out to us this season. Last weekend, Telfar had a big moment. It was no surprise that Doja Cat was present since she is a style star. Latto had her moments this week as well.

A cat is experimenting with a new look.

The internet wasn’t sure when Doja Cat shaved her head. She made a statement during New York Fashion Week. She used the Manhattan streets as her runway this past week, and her hair and makeup artist did a great job. Her hair was painted bright orange and she wore a t-shirt that said “I’d Rather be Eating Ass” She wore a white dress and boots for the Vogue World show but her head was painted white with circles. She wore a pinstripe suit and blonde hair at the Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards. She was awarded the “breakthrough fashion icon” award. Neither of them is afraid of pushing against convention, and we love what they dream up.
Latto spent her first New York fashion week in killer looks.

Zerina Akers has made Latto a style star. At Latto’s first New York Fashion Week, Akers tested out a few high fashion looks for the Atlanta based rapper. Latto was styled in a sexy snow white Monot dress by Akers, who is well-known for her work with Bey and Halle. Latto wore the Fe Noel Sunset Dancehall Dress for the first time and it was beautiful. She stunned in an outfit consisting of Michael Chamberlain pieces which she wore to the Vogue World after party at The Boom Boom Room, with a pink wig. If given the right tools, Akers should get a round of applause.

Though we didn’t attend, it appeared that Telfar’s takeover of Downtown Brooklyn’s Rainbow was chaotic, but also a hit. This was Telfar Clemens’ first brick-and-mortar pop-up, fans were able to choose from a myriad of colors and sizes which were available. We recently shared this news via the site. Vogue reported that over 3,500 units of the logo “Shopping Bag” were in-stock and that there was a ridiculous line to get in – apparently 1,000 people had to go home bagless. If you’d like to get your hands on the “Shopping Bag,” there’s a drop of every color and size on September 23 online.

The guiding light for her latest collection was the designer who died. She chose textiles in multiple variations this season. The models went down the runway in pieces that were inspired by Mugler. We prefer to view some of her pieces as sensuality and for those who are confident enough to wear them. A Nigerian designer uses the woman’s body as acanvas.
Designers of color are spotlighted by black in the fashion council.

Black In Fashion Council was founded by Lindsay Peoples and Sandrine Charles to provide community, resources, and space for those in fashion. Black-owned brands such as Harbison, Vavvoune, Jessica Rich, Ajovang, Sammy B, Izayala, and others were on display. We are sure you were satisfied with your appointment. Each of the designers that are picked each season has a different style.
Edvin Thompson has still got it.
Hannah Turner Harts is a student at the school.
Edvin Thompson was the winner of the American Emerging Designer of the Year in 2011. Thompson created chic two-piece suits, a leather multi-colored mini-skirt, sleek separates, and printed pieces for the spring23 season. The t-shirts with the words “I heart TP” were a big hit. Edvin shared in a press release, “My Spring/Summer 2023 collection ‘Homecoming’ is an homage to myself, going home to Kingston, Jamaica, while also celebrating my life in New Jersey, Atlanta, and New York.” He says that the collection is an homage to all the places he called home.
Sammy B hosted her first ever runway show.

Sammy B’s first runway show was held in New York at Live Rocket Studios and she used her Caribbean background to inject her music and more. A few looks featured silk separates that were new territory for the designer who is known for creating a custom neoprene look for Bey. Sammy leaned into her Jamaican culture when the last half of the collection was shown. Those who like dresses, tops and skirts in black, green, and yellow can choose from these options.
