That’s over with New York Fashion Week. Though we still have London, Milan and Paris to go, the first wave of Spring 2023 collections gave us plenty to think about and start scheming about what the major trends will be six months from now.
We made some guesses based on the looks that sent us back to the early 2010s. You can read up on the big things from the runways in the galleries below. We’ll take you across the pond.
Belly Button Windows
The jury is still out on what we call the styling trick that has dominated New York Fashion Week. We have at least six months to figure it out.
Blow-up Capes
We like clothes that seem to ask “Me?” Is that the drama? The blow-up caped shoulders and sleeves we saw on the New York runways fit that description. It’s a trend and performance.
Boobs Out
Given how many looks we’re seeing on the runways, brands don’t seem to be too concerned about what’s SFW versus not for Spring 2023.
Bubble Hems
If you missed it, it’s this year again! When you look at all the 2010s trends we’re seeing come back for Spring 2023, it’s obvious that’s the conclusion.
Floor-Sweeping Fringe
The theme of recent fashion trends is: If you’re going to do something, do it with your chest. In the case of Spring 2023, that means that if you want to try something, go all-out, the kind of fringe that can nearly sweep the floor behind you.
High-Low Hemlines
The days of hiding our footwear choices under skirts are numbered because the high-low hem is more powerful than ever.
Long Denim Skirts
Long denim skirts feature prominently not only in the Spring 2023 collections, but also in the street style outside of New York Fashion Week. Don’t feel like you have to wait until March to take it out for a ride.
Peplum Waists
It may not be vintage, but the peplum waists take us back in time to 2012 and the questionable interpretations of business casual. The shapely silhouette is being reconsidered in ways both subtle and exaggerated.
Retro Utility Pockets
The brands are thinking about the future, and making sure that your favorite outfit has plenty of storage for all your essentials. The pockets are everywhere.
Lime Green
Love Bird is an exotic green with a lively character that will be a shade to watch for in the Spring of 2023. Lots of bright lime are in the new collections.
Tangerine
If you didn’t get your fill of lime, you can add a dash of tangerine to your Spring 2023 wardrobe. Designers are giving us more than enough to work with with their latest New York Fashion Week collections, featuring a range of tangerine shades across ready-to-wear
