
The students at the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar campus were given the chance to put their creativity in fashion to the test.
As part of a series of activities held on Sept 3 to promote the importance of 5R, they designed apparel which they modeled at a fashion show competition and used recycled items. The winning design was created by Yong.
The event, which was held to commemorate the university’s 20th anniversary, had 300 people participate.
The duo Mike Yong and Andy Choo won the competition and took home a laptop and a sum of money.
Yong said he designed the apparel while Choo did the modelling.
We didn’t think we’d be the winners.
We wanted to share our creativity in fashion as we like to do it ourselves. He said that winning it is a bonus.
He said that the judges and audience liked the design.
The second and third prize winners received a laptop and money.
The fashion show was unique and had great ideas that were out of the box according to the audience member.
It was interesting to watch the designers explain their ideas and how they will use recycled items.
She said that she hopes to see more similar events in the future.
The idea of recycling isn’t new, but it’s still important to encourage it from one generation to the next.
We need to think of creative ideas like this fashion show to encourage recycling among the young generation.
Diong hopes that participants will know more about the practice of 5R.
The students of the Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Public Relations collaborated with the district council to hold a recycling event.
The importance of 5R in protecting the environment and lowering the flash flood rate in the district was promoted through workshops, talks and exhibitions.
