Mourners pay respects as Queen Elizabeth lies in state 02:17

The United Kingdom entered a period of mourning after Queen Elizabeth II died. This period usually lasts 12 days. King Charles III ordered the mourning period to last until seven days after his mother’s funeral.

There is no federal requirement for the British government to shut down on that day.

Patients will not be able to go to appointments at most British hospitals on Monday due to the government’s austerity measures. Hip and knee replacements and cataract surgeries will need to be rearranged because of the cancellation. There are more than 6 million people on waiting lists for healthcare in England.

The aisles and departments of many stores are closing out of respect for the funeral service of the queen.

McDonald’s will be closing all of its locations until 5 pm on Monday, so locals will not be able to get a fast food meal.

All of our UK restaurants will be closed on Monday until 5pm, to allow everyone at McDonald’s to pay their respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The British Library is closing for the day and will not be open for patrons to check out a book.

To mark the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Library will be closed on Monday 19 September.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland has decided to close the Chester Zoo and all of its parks.

Everyone here at Chester Zoo sends their heartfelt condolences to the royal family at this time.

The zoo will remain open tomorrow (Friday 9 September) but will close on the date of the State Funeral.

Several previously scheduled strikes by the rail workers and postal workers’ unions were suspended out of respect for her service to the country and her family.

Several other activities are being put on hold.

The ability to sign a petition has been stopped until further notice.

The Royal Meteorological Society and the Meterological Office will only be posting essential content during this time.
