There is a DJ review and photos.

It was a long time since the Pop Evil show was held. Nick Fuelling, the guitarist for the band, broke his ankle after a show in Michigan and many of the shows had to be pushed back. The band came down here and played the show on Friday September 9th.

The Hard Rockers from Alabama will be opening for Pop Evil. The band has been working hard to make a name for itself in the business. We had a chance to review their debut album, “Saints and Sinners”, and their own brand of Modern Hard Rock, which is a very tough feat in that crowded arena. The life of a traveling musician is tough, but the guys in Shallow Side have managed to keep going. We start the night with a bang, as singer Eric Boatright comes rililng the crowd with his range. A couple of younger fans are at their first Rock concert and are watching a guitarist play. It was cool to give them guitar picks. The guys did a good job of jumping start the energy and delivering a good performance. If fans didn’t know who they were before, now they do. This is a band that opened for Halestorm and now Pop Evil. When you get a chance, check out the new single. Smaller bands will surely be grateful if you support them.

There is a very interesting and unique band called Zillion. Providing some laughter for the fans multiple times. The band’s drummer wearing a head costume and a cube man in a king costume add to the fun. I like to see the guys don’t take themselves too seriously. The actual set was pretty good, to be honest, and songs like “War Inside of Me” and “The Basement” play very well live, and this mix of industrial sounds with edgier mainstream choruses stands out in the set. It is refreshing to see a band that has conviction to have fun and not take themselves too seriously, even if the cube workshipping thing is weird. The old grump probably missed the point with the imagery, regardless of the good show from the guys.

Pop Evil is locked and loaded as the drummer’s drum kit sits at an elevated pedestal ready to embark on this night at Hard Rock. Heavy hitters “Eye of the Storm” and “Set Me Free” got the crowd moving with an edge, as frontmanLeigh Kakaty comes out firing on all cylinders. Eye of the Storm reached #1 on the Active Rock chart, marking their 8th career #1 single. In the order of the setlist, the band’s song “Be Legendary” plays well. Cramer is fantastic hammering the skins like there is no tomorrow because Pop Evil is consistent with their lives shows. There are some powerful vocal lines thatLeigh is delivering. The number is called “Torn to Pieces”. One of the band’s most popular songs, “Waking Lions”, is one of the killer songs the night ends with. Pop brings their brand of Modern Hard Rock, a little rap in there reminiscent of Rage Against The Machine, some commercial undertones that were very noticeable on albums like the band’s title effort, and you get a group who is peaking at the right time.
