Obituary: Charles Lewis Johnson MD

Charles Johnson is a doctor.

Charles Lewis Johnson, MD, 76, died in the embrace of his family after a fall at his residence. He was the son of Erling and Helen Johnson.

After completing his undergraduate and Medical Doctor degrees at the University of Michigan, Charles moved to Maine for his Residency in Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center, where he married Jo Ann Palmacci. After graduating from medical school, Charles worked in the Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center for more than two decades before opening his own private practice. After moving to California, he got married to a woman named Janet Cooper.

He was an avid reader and a great fan of music. He was a big fan of his guitar and coffee. He loved watching his youngest grandchild play and was proud of his children and step children. Charles moved to The Cedars in Portland after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Charles was affectionately remembered by staff for his big smile, great hugs and sense of humor.

His brother Edward Johnson was the one who died. His children, stepchildren and grandchildren are his, along with his wife, Janet (Kelly) Cooper.

Charles will be celebrated in a private way. His ashes will be scattered in his favorite places.
