Nedy is a pop artist based in Nashville and she spins negatives into positives. We are proud to premiere the lyric video for her new song, “FUEL.” NEDY created the “Friends Forever Club,” an organization for children ages eight to eighteen, as a way to prevent bullying in schools, and is currently writing a book geared toward children ages four to ten called “Made To Be: BUZZ.”
“FUEL” is about taking the hate from your naysayers and critics and using it to fuel you.
NEDY has been nominated for Female Rising Star of the Year at the next Josie Music Awards, which will be held at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. She is currently on her You Matter Tour and is working on a new show for the Christian Television Network.
How old were you when you started playing guitar, and what inspired you to start playing music?
After my parents divorced, I was always going back and forth between Georgia and LA to visit my dad. My dad used to play music around the house and the car when I was a kid. The Latino duo called Matricula 2 was sung by his brother. Alanis Morissette and Jack Johnson were influences on me as a kid. Music was a big part of my life.
My mom bought me a guitar from the swap meet when I was 14 because I wanted to play guitar. It was hard to grow up below the middle class, but we always stuck together. I sold candy bars in order to pay for my first guitar when I was a sophomore. Through the motions of life, I learned that if you want something, you have to go get it; you decide how bad you want it.
I took voice lessons and learned to sing, after dabbling with drums and piano. I didn’t know if I’d be able to learn how to sing and how my voice would sound. I dropped out of voice class because of my fear. I got myself a voice coach because I wasn’t ready to sing in front of others. She taught me how to sing and it has been one of the most fulfilling things I have done.
My single, “Made To Be,” opened up a lot of doors for me when it was released.
Tell us about your new single.
It has encouraged me to see so many people relate to it and be inspired by it as well. The lyrics mean a lot to me, and I try to turn the negative circumstances in life into something positive. That is what “FUEL” is about. It is possible to fuel your purpose and passion with the negative feedback. I have gotten a lot of hate for being my own person, never really being one to join the crowd, and having to come to realize that some of the people I thought were my closest friends and family are actually some of my biggest haters.
What was the process of writing a song?
I have written many of the songs I have written. I wanted to get this message off of my chest. Through it all, I have learned that even negative circumstances can be used to learn and become a better person.
What do you want your fans/listeners to take away from listening to your music?
I hope that my radio audience is inspired to look at the future with hope.
What should we do next?
I am writing a children’s book, playing shows, and recording music.
