It was 1 / 21.
Brandon Maxwell used purple, his mother’s favorite color, in his New York Fashion Week spring/summer collection.
The show at Christie’s New York in Rockefeller Plaza opened with a loud sound of birds and blue lighting. The lighting gradually shifted to an airy lilac, which evoked sunrise.
Maxwell focused on the theme of soft feminine beauty by wearing pastels, layers and relaxed symmetrical silhouettes. He mixed neutrals with pastels in everyday closet pieces for women. The show opened with a blush pink look with a silver sequined mini skirt, a white shirt, and a pink blazer.
When he moved out of New York City, the inspiration for the collection came from him.
The collection is still inspired by the people that raised me, because a lot of what went into it was triggered by the silence outside of the city.
He said that is reflected in the clothes of the late 90s and early 2000s. He said that his family is always in there because he came to love fashion.
The look was reminiscent of denim overalls with a black sequined top embroidered with yellow sunflowers and a plunging v-neckedline. Other looks included wide tan cargo pants with a matching halter top under a white cotton tank top. The most notable look was a full-length dress with a white tank.
The show closed with a floor-length silvery skirt that looked like a Monet painting, a white T-shirt, rose pink blazer and a platform heel.
Anna Wintour, La La Anthony, Karlie Kloss, and Kelsea Ballerini were all sitting in the front row.
Maxwell just gets it. I love that he fits all body types, like mine. Anthony said that he just gets it.
