Best friends turned entrepreneurs have described how a love of vintage fashion has turned into a million-dollar business with their wears being worn by the likes of

Nine Lives Bazaar is known for its eclectic prints and sustainable fabric choices and is owned by two women.

After many years of collecting vintage, Rose andVanessa decided to open a store on the internet and sell some of their favourite pieces at village markets.

The owners of Nine Lives Bazaar areVanessa Cave andRose Madden.

The brand has been worn by a number of famous people.

“Our friend who had an established brand mentioned we should start our own brand and that he would give us his contacts if in exchange we would style his office.”

We created our own custom printed garments after working closely with textile designers to source fabrics from the markets in Indonesia and then in China.

The Nine Lives Bazaar is named after the colourful lives of generations that came before us.

The idea is that the collections are watches and talismans that will fall into more than one person’s hand.

We like to imagine who this possession will be passed down to. What number of date nights and weddings will it be? What festival grounds are it going to visit? She made a statement.

Their first custom printed range was released in 2016 and the second in 2020.

“We’ve always designed statement garments that we want to own ourselves with our motto of “more is more, less is a bore”,” she stated.

We’re inspired by vintage pieces, but this time around they are designed to fit and feel better on the body.

When we started the brand, we were in our early 20s, so the skirts were a lot shorter, the tops more croppy, jumpsuits were our go to, and a whole lot of bell sleeves were the heroes of our collections.

There are more flowy dresses, palazzo pants and button down shirts to accommodate our busy mum lives.

In 2016 and 2020 they released their first custom printed range.

As the brand has grown, they have been able to cater to an inclusive size range of six to 20 and represent those who have not been included by other brands.

“We’ve grown a seriously engaged community of fellow lovers of locomotion, fiercely bold clothing and unapologetic expression – who just absolutely love what we do.”

Each collection launch gets an even more amazing response and sentiment than the last, and they’re always as excited as we are about what’s to come next.

She said that they fell off their chairs when the entire colourway sold out in five minutes.

The second time we put it on pre order, it sold out in five minutes.

With a growth rate approaching 200 per cent in the past two years Nine Lives Bazaar is geared up for a busy next quarter with the release of its swimwear made from recycled fishing nets.
