Anne “Anita” Martin
Anne “Anita” Martin

Anne Martin died at home surrounded by her family. She was the youngest of 9 children and lived in the United States and Ireland with her two brothers. Edward Martin, her husband of 53 years, her daughter Annie Martin of New York City, her daughter Julie Martin Ambrosio of Virginia Beach, and her grandsons Alex and Grace are all dead.

She was known to her family as “Nana”, and she loved vacations, barbecues, and her dog. Her family remembers her for her many adventures, including zip lining on family trips and skydiving for her 73rd birthday. She chose hospice care at home so she could spend time with her friends and family after she was diagnosed with cancer. She still has her sense of humor and spirited outlook on life.

For more than 40 years, she was an avid exerciser, going to the gym 6-7 days a week. She referred to her morning gym friends as her second family when she was a member of One Life Fitness. It was these friends that meant the world to her. The family would like to thank the One Life Fitness family for their love and attention during her illness, as well as the Medi Hospice team for their excellent care and emotional support. There will be no formal service in accordance with the wishes of Anita. We invite you to celebrate with her by taking a ride on a roller coaster, having a cocktail, or working out. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts for local cancer patients through the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater, which is located at 6251 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Suite 320, Norfolk, VA.
