The beginning has turned into the end. In the past, Women In Music Weekend was held at a bar called SideTracks. The women in music organization Alli Johnson was reached out to by the cultural programming director of the amphitheater, Dianya Markovits. The amphitheater was open on the 18th of September.
Johnson says that they decided to do a finale at the venue instead of having a kick off. Four days of spotlighting the city’s female musicians will follow the conclusion of the fourth Women In Music Weekend.

The women are in music weekend. The Women in Music Weekend is in the area.
More than 30 acts will perform during Women In Music Weekend. Lana White will perform at Pan E Vino at 6:30 pm.
The Women In Music shows take place at a number of places. The finale is at 701 Amphitheater Drive.
The finale of Women In Music is free and features a backing band of Canita Rogers and Kira Hughes. The finale band works hard to give featured performers the best possible musical platform to shine from. Their level of talent and dedication is inspiring.
Each act will perform one to three songs, with the band backing them up. There are artists scheduled for the finale.
The performers were told in the finale that they would be performing on the stage, and they were excited. It’s amazing to be able to get some of these lady performers up there on that stage, because it’s such an important venue for us here inHuntsville. It means a lot for them to be up there on a stage.
Chris Stapleton, Brittany Howard, Jack White, Dave Matthews Band, Black Crowes, and Waxahatchee are some of the artists that have played at the venue. Stevie Nicks is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s first female double-inductee and a huge influence on female musicians.
There wasn’t a huge metric to how she organized Women In Music’s final show. Lana White was one of the veterans I wanted. She has a lot of albums on all the streaming services. She has been a part of the scene for a while. She is an icon to many of the ladies here. A lot of young musicians have been helped by Neve Weinberger, who was a member of Redheaded Stepchild.
It was important to bring newer artists to the stage. She says that people who don’t go to bars or restaurants will go to the event. They will be able to hear these people and they will be able to follow them.
There is a complete schedule at downtownhuntsville.org/women-in-music-weekend. A 7:30 p.m. show is one of the notable ones. The Dead Deads are a three piece band from Nashville, who recently toured as the opening act for British rockers The Darkness at The Camp. There is a $5 cover and backing by Atlanta band The Ladies Of…, which includes a man named Johnny.
Downtown Huntsville Inc. helped get Women in Music together each year. After watching a performance by Johnson’s band Seeking Babylon in which all-female acoustic rock trio welcomed guest musicians to the stage, Chad Emerson came up with the idea of Women In Music WeekendHuntsville.
Matt Mandrella says Johnson is the driving force behind the event. Mandrella says she cannot say enough good things about her. This is a major caliber kind of event that she booked, and I took a step back and looked at the whole poster. I was blown away when I saw the whole thing. Seeing her vision come to life has been incredible.
The birthplace of Elvis Presley was where Johnson was born. She started playing bluegrass music at a young age. The family moved to North Alabama because of her father’s job with the federal government. Johnson is a graduate of Arab High School. She is a business analyst for a government company.
Johnson helped promote the event on social media and put up flyers for the event. From there, her role grew even bigger. She helps facilitate setup at the venues and leads rehearsals for the finale of the show.
Usually, Johnson begins planning Women In Music Weekend about three or four months out. She started planning next year. She is looking at taking Women In Music even bigger in the future. She wants to make it more of a festival type weekend. What big headliners can we bring in to entertain the crowd?
Mandrella is tasked with helping elevate and evolve the city’s music scene, so that it becomes more attractive for young professionals and companies that hire young professionals. Mandrella is a Mobile native who is starting his new job as a music officer early this year.
It was one of Mandrella’s first major initiatives. September will be the first-ever music month in the city. One of the tentpole events of music month is the women in music weekend. There are around 100 music month events including local band performances at bars and venues, weekly Jazz in the Park concerts, a school music-instrument drive, music industry career fair, and artist development workshop.
It couldn’t be better for the first music month in the area. On top of that, it was featured in the September issue of Rolling Stone. The Rolling Stone piece focuses on the world-class Orion Amphitheater, which was co-founded by Lovett, and brings stars who previously passed the city over here to open it. It’s more of a zoom-in month. There’s a follow-up.
Mandrella would like to say that the Rolling Stone story was planned the same way as the music month. It was not planned. The initiatives that are focused on putting a spotlight on our local community lined up perfectly. There is a lot of attention given to our music efforts by the world.
Big Spring Jam, which brought acts like Foo Fighters and Taylor Swift to the city, was the last large-scale music festival in the area. A new festival with major headliners is something Mandrella is looking into and exploring a variety of options. Mandrella cautions that discussions are still preliminary and that he can’t go into more detail.
Each year, Lana White performs at Women in Music Weekend. One of her biggest influences is Sheryl Crow, and one of her biggest influences is her most recent album, “Evergreen,” which contains sharp guitar-pop songs like “Making Up” and “Wither.”
The artists of Women In Music Weekend are more sisters than divas, according to White. White says it has felt great. I enjoy it because I have been able to meet other people. I met the girl who plays percussion for me through Women in Music.
White has been involved in music for two decades. There are many more legit venues for local female musicians and they are more likely to be instrumentalists now. It’s very important to me. White says that they’re not just front women.
A person might think that a month of music is not really a title. White says it makes the scene look better. You feel like you don’t know why you do this. It’s difficult to get your music out there. When you get the chance to play your original music, it’s a great feeling. I keep writing and recording because I know I will be performing those songs in a city. It’s great to know that people in your town know your song.
