Palace prepares for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral

Two minutes of silence will be observed across the UK on Monday at the end of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Buckingham Palace released more information about the funeral of the queen on Thursday. The monarch’s reign ended when she died at her summer retreat.

Edward William Fitzalan-Howard, the official in charge of arrangements, said the funeral and events over the next few days are intended to unite people across the globe, while fulfilling her majesty and her family’s wishes to pay a fitting tribute to an extraordinary.

Tens of thousands of people were waiting in a line for more than four miles along the River Thames in London to file past her coffin.

The queen held a unique position throughout our lives. The world is coming to terms with her demise and this has been felt more acutely over the past few days.

The coffin of King Charles III’s mother will lie in state at the Houses of Parliament for 15 minutes on Friday. Prince Andrew, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward were present when the coffin was brought to St. Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh.

After the state funeral on Monday, attended by 2,000 guests, Elizabeth’s coffin will be taken through the historic heart of London on a horse-drawn gun carriage.

More than 200 people will be honored by the late queen for their work responding to the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as charities, healthcare and education.

In front of a hushed crowd of mourners, the coffin was taken from the palace to the Houses of Parliament and then down the flag-lined Mall.

All flights will be halted for 15 minutes before the two-minute national silence on Monday, to avoid noise disruption.

The committal service for the queen will be held at St. George’s Chapel near Windsor Castle, attended by 800 people, including members of the queen’s household.

The coffin will be lowered into the Royal Vault at the end of the service. The congregation will sing a song called God Save The King after the blessing is given by the Archbishop.

The queen will be buried with her late husband, Prince Philip, at the King George VI Memorial Chapel, after a private burial service for members of the royal family.
