The state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will start at 11 a.m. local time, Buckingham Palace revealed on Thursday. On Monday, September 19 The service will be held at the abbey.
The queen’s own coronation took place at the ancient abbey, and she married Prince Philip there in 1947. There hasn’t been a funeral there for a monarch since the 18th century, but the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II’s mother was held there in 2002.
The plans for the funeral have been in place for years.
Members of the public will be able to pay their respects to the late monarch on Monday morning when the queen’s coffin is put in a gun carriage and taken to the abbey. Members of the royal family, including King Charles III, will accompany the coffin to the Abbey.
Two minutes of silence will be held in the U.K. at the conclusion of the service.
At around 12 p.m. local, there will be a service at the church. The queen’s body will be taken in a procession to Hyde Park, where it will be taken to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where she spent a lot of her life.
The queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and her husband, Prince Philip, are buried in St. George’s Chapel. It is often used by the royal family for weddings and funerals. Philip’s funeral was held at that location, as was the wedding of the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex.

Who will attend?
The funeral of the queen is expected to be one of the largest gatherings of politicians in decades. The palace would not confirm attendance, but the abbey can hold over 2,000 people.
According to reports, world leaders were asked to travel to London on commercial flights if possible, and to make their way to London on special buses on the day of the funeral
The prime ministers of Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Bangladesh, as well as the presidents of India and Sri Lanka, have confirmed that they will attend the funeral of the queen. The leaders of France and Turkey are expected to attend the event.
Japan’s Emperor Naruhito, the king and queen of Belgium, the king and queen of the Netherlands, and the king and queen of Spain are all expected to attend.
China’s foreign ministry said it is considering sending a high level delegation after the Chinese president was invited. Iran would be represented at the ambassadorial level by the British government, according to a report.
Who’s not invited?
The queen’s funeral won’t be attended by anyone from Russia, nor will it be attended by anyone from Syria, Taliban-controlled Afghanistan or Venezuela.
The heads of state were not invited to send ambassadors.
What else is happening before the funeral?
The palace announced that King Charles III, who was spending Thursday catching up on state business, will mount a vigil at the queen’s coffin on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. local. Along with his siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Fifteen minutes is how long the vigil will last.
The king and the queen will travel to Wales on Friday to attend a service of remembrance at Llandaff Cathedral and receive sympathies from the Welsh Senedd.
On Saturday, King Charles III will carry out state business at Buckingham Palace and then travel to police headquarters to thank the emergency services for their work during the period leading up to the funeral of the queen.
On Sunday, the king and queen consort will host an official state event for visiting heads of state and other official overseas guests.
