The board of trustees of Cuyahoga Arts & Culture approved the relief funds. 149 groups made the cut after the money was approved by the council. The American Rescue Plan Act funding was for organizations that had received a grant of at least $3,000 in the past three years.
Each grant was worth at least $2,000 The Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Museum of Art, Playhouse Square Foundation, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum received the highest grants.
The ARPA grants are part of the support the arts and cultural organizations get from the cigarette tax. CAC supports Ideastream Public Media.
According to the numbers shared at the board meeting, cigarette tax revenues are down by over 8 percent this year.
The first 22 months of the Pandemic resulted in a $171 million drop in revenue for organizations it works with.
