
The Vintage High girls water polo team won their first game of the season, 13-7, against visiting Justin-Siena on Tuesday.
The three-time Most Valuable Player was senior captain Rachel Galvin.
Though double-teamed, he scored 8 goals, had an assist, earned 3 steals, and caused an ejection that gave Vintage a power play.
Addy Soffner used her speed to score a goal and cause 2 ejections, while Kira Tavakoli and Alex Meyering assisted on two of the goals. Bri Fry assisted on a goal, stole the ball twice, caused an ejection, field blocked a shot, and she added an assist and a steal.
Head coach Sarah Tinloy said that the West U’Ren team played great defense in and out of the water, and that goalie and senior captain Savannah Davis blocked 8 shots on goal and assisted on 3 counter- attack goals.
Tinloy said that the win was a team effort. I am proud of this team and their attitude as a whole. They have set the tone for a great season, and I am excited to see what they do this weekend at the Sierra Shootout Tournament.
The tournament will be held at Sierra College in Rocklin on Friday and Saturday.
The American Canyon had a number of Justin-Sienas.
Brooklyn Blankenship shot a 46 at the Chardonnay Golf Club to lead the Braves to a VVAL victory. Three people came in with scores of 57, 61, and 68, and the other two had scores of 57, 61, and 68.
Chris Curnutt, the first-year Braves head coach, said that the conditions were very tough this afternoon. The girls battled hard and I am proud of their determination despite the adverse conditions. I’m very happy with the result. Expectations for the rest of the season are set today.
Vintage is competing at a meet.
After a week of training in extremely high temperatures, the Crushers took on the hills at Hidden Valley Park on Saturday.
Vintage had a week of 6:30 a.m. workouts and Healthquest supported them by allowing them to use treadmills to complete their workouts.
The team that placed 15th was the Crushers.
Costanzo said that many of the athletes are brand new to running and it would be nice to place higher. They are very athletic and ready to get faster, but they’re just getting started on what’s going to be an incredible season of growth.
The Vintage boys ran on a 2-mile course and were led by sophomores Valentin Arango and Grayson Frye and freshman Anthony Willmert.
The Vintage girls were led by senior Susana Nuno and freshman Ivy Alexander, followed closely by sophomore Eliza Chapin and senior Lilla Kasper Naomi Tessier finished in 17:28 andSophie Nassiri did the same in 17:51.
The freshman boys were led by Angel Borrayo with a 19th-place finish.
Aina Akaboshi is the leader of the frosh-soph girls. Dayana ran a personal-record 19:18, finishing shoulder to shoulder with Caelyn Diskin, followed by Chelsea Luna.
Soren De Young improved on last year’s time on the same course by 7 minutes, and he was one of two frosh-soph boys who competed in the race.
The boys and girls ran the JV races for Vintage.
The Viking opener will be held this Saturday at Spring Lake Park.

The Braves won their VVAL opener in Petaluma on Tuesday 25-19, 27-25, 25-16.
The Braves were led by Anna Hanson, who had 14 kills, Reagan Brumfield, who had 12 kills, and Ranssa Rualo, who had 15 assists.
Kate Reilley said it was a great way to kick off league play. Our defense was forced to adjust in all three games, and I am proud of our girls for finishing. On Thursday, we are looking forward to hosting.

The Wolves won their first league game of the year, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18, in Sonoma on Tuesday night.
Pacheco had 11 digs and 5 kills. She had 23 digs and 2 kills. Bernabe had 6 digs and 4 kills. Kennedy Brown had 4 kills and one block. The Nalani Bustos had 15 assists. Giselle had 5 kills and 17 Assists. Ava Berry had 10 kills.
On Thursday, American Canyon will be going to Petaluma.
2 singles player Kaelin Paringit defeated Haley Van Bebber while the doubles team of Julia Bui and Isabella Christman defeated the Prandis. The forfeited win was at No. 3 doubles.
Annie Bober, Tenlee Leone, and Mya Gonzalez all won singles matches. The USC won at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Zariel Robles and the other girl.
American Canyon had a 2-0 victory over Sonoma Valley.
The Wolves kept their composure in the second set to finish the sweep.

At 4 p.m., there will be a game between Justin-Siena and Napa High. The Clark Gym is open Thursday.
The Braves finished in the top eight in a tournament. For the day, they were led by Campagna (31 digs, 29 for 31 serving, 1 ace), Wassef (26 for 32 serving, 7 ace), Coleman (14 digs, 6 ace, 16 for 23 serving), and Reinoso (20 digs, 4 kills, 12 ace).
