After a six-year hiatus, WOLF! featuring Scott Metzger, Jon Shaw, and Taylor Floreth are back with a new album. Along with the announcement, the trio shared a new single off the upcoming six-track, “Ratso.”
Chris Connors mixed the play at Restoration Sound in Brooklyn, N.Y. The group’s first offering, “Ratso,” is an ideal introduction to a set of music steeped in deep instrumentation.
Marco Benevento, of Almost Dead, is on the Farfisa organ in the group’s upcoming track “Hawaiian Shirt.” There are more songs on the EP, including the guitar-laden “Hey Francis,” gleeful “Cottonmouth,” and expansive “Patty Cake.” There are six tunes that showcase the ensemble’s unique instrumental ability as a powerful configuration, which is one of the reasons why the EP is comprised of six tunes.
Wolf has a thing. There is an innate chemistry between the three of us. I don’t hear anyone else playing this sort of music. It is a guitar-centered band, but it is not about fancy chops. It is about three guys in a room making music in real time, and it feels good to hear it for the first time. I think we need a little of that right now.
The band will play The Sultan Room in Brooklyn, N.Y. at the beginning of October, followed by a gig at Stage One in Connecticut on October 7. The final shows will be at Soundcheck Studios and Still Partners.
