Mariah Carey Has Plans to Release Her Secret 1995 Rock Album

In 1995 she recorded an alternative rock album with the band chick, where she took inspiration from acts like Hole and Alanis Morissette.

While the singer was working on her fifth album, the writing sessions for the record were secret. Carey described the album in her book.

“I was playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light white female singers who were popular at the time. You know the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image.”

“They could be angry, angsty, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled slips, and unruly eyebrows, while every move I made was so calculated and manicured. I wanted to break free, let loose, and express my misery – but I also wanted to laugh.”

When Carey’s label, Sony Music, got hold of the project, they claimed that it would damage the singer’s reputation.

As a less-than-ideal solution, Carey asked her friend Clarissa Dane to re-record all of her vocals, and the record was released as a chick effort.

Carey told Rolling Stone that she plans to release the original mix of the album in its original form.

She didn’t want to name the artist she was talking about in the interview, but she did say she has something planned related to that project.
