It is hard to believe that any other title would have been a better fit for Mitchell Tenpenny.
The album is Tenpenny’s heaviest to date, with its dense drum lines and heavy guitars.
He told American Songwriter that he wanted to return some of the influence he had when he was in rock bands. The production and lyrics are a bit heavier. I want to express myself more with deeper lyrics and give it a heavy production.
Though the Nashville native has never shied away from releasing new music, Tenpenny took things to a whole new level as he quickly amassed 20 songs for the record.
You will hear a lot of country records from his peers, but this one is different. When he was younger, Tenpenny was influenced by the post-metal/emo bands of the ‘90s and early00s.
He still manages to keep country and Tenpenny distinct.
It was almost never released. A demo was posted to Tik Tok. It was on the top of the country charts after it shot off.
He says that the single took off after he put a demo on the site. There were a lot of messages from fans telling them about it. The life of that song has been insane.
The title track is an homage to his influences in the rock world.
The pace of the record is set by the beginning of an instrumental. The opening is heavy on drums and pop punk. In country, you don’t hear that kind of thing a lot.
Tenpenny holds one of the last tracks on the record. The Nashville native found a permanent home for the song after shopping it around.
He says he is happy that it made it on the record. I thought someone else would cut it, but it never happened. It’s in my life now and I’m very happy about it.
Mitchell began a tour with another singer. The experience gave Tenpenny a head start on his own tour, which he will embark on at the start of next year. Dates can be found below.

He says he is excited to go on his own tour. The fans come in that way. In the world, it is the hottest feeling. You pick up a guitar because of that.
