The case of the Band 7 is made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, which is one gram more than the manufacturer’s specifications, and yields a minimal weight of 17 grams. The tracker has a weight of 29 grams (1 oz). The case has a curved display on its long axis. The black underside houses several sensors for the heart rate and SpO2 monitors, while the right side has a button. The underside of the device has metal charging pins. The armband has little levers on the springs and can be changed without any additional tools. The band is kept closed with a clasp rather than a pin. There’s noLTE version with its own sim card, and there’s no microphone or speaker in the device.

Without the Health app, the watch cannot be set up. The data collected by the watch’s sensors are displayed here. The app can’t be found in the Play Store due to the US sanctions. After the app is downloaded and you approve installation from unknown sources, the app can be installed. After the app has been installed, updates will happen automatically. Permissions must be given to the software in order for the fitness tracker to be able to display phone calls and messages. Depending on the manufacturer of your phone, the app gives appropriate instructions.
The display on the band is mostly set from the watch itself. If these have been downloaded by the app before, you can switch between different watch faces for the always-on display. The content and order of the cards can be changed by sliding sideways from the home screen. The watch handles the brightness settings. A mode for the watch’s display to become darker at night can be activated with the help of five levels of brightness, instead of the built-in light sensor.
The data collected by the watch is handled through the health app.
Values are graphs.
The previous exercise sessions are saved as well.
Additional exercise routines can be found via a subscription.
The Health app has ads.
The watch faces can be loaded on the watch.
The settings are mostly controlled by the app.
The Huawei Band 7 is operated primarily through its 1.47″ capacitive screen. From the home screen, a swipe from bottom to top opens up the notifications menu, where all incoming messages displayed and sorted according to app. A swipe from top to bottom leads to the quick settings menu, with options for an alarm clock, do-not-disturb mode, smartphone search, as well as an option to activate the display for a few minutes. Sideways swipes lead through tiles with health information, such as pulse rate and blood oxygen saturation, as well as to tiles with the weather, currently playing media on the smartphone, and an overview tile with the usual circles for steps, active time and exercise time. The order and content of the tiles can also be customized by the user.
The Band 7 has a button on the right side of the screen that opens the app menu. When you press this button in an app, it takes you back to the home screen, while a move from the left to the right takes you to the next menu. Lifting the watch up as well as touching the panel will enable the display to be activated. One second is all it takes for the display of the Band 7 to light up.
The Health app provides an overview of steps taken, distance run, and burned calories, as well as two otherWidgets. The Health app opens up when you click on the widget.
Telephone calls can’t be made with this tracker because the band 7 lacks a microphone and speaker. The Wearable reliably displays notifications, while which apps can push notifications to the band, is set through the Health app. The tracker doesn’t have its own data connection, so a pair of phones has to always be within range of each other. Although the band can’t show incoming images and emojis, the tracker has fixed short answers, and can also reply to the watch. The content and order of the replies can be adjusted.
There isn’t a voice assistant in the tracker. The function can’t be added later via a software update because the speaker and microphone are missing.
The health parameters are displayed on the watch as well as on the app. The tracker shows previous workouts next to the current values. There is a feature on the Band 7 that is known as the Running ability index. The value of the wearer’s performance during a jog is displayed and compared to other users through the use of a scale. The tracker shows the last seven days’ training regimen, the recovery status or estimated recovery time until the next intensive training session and the VO2Max. Most of the fitness features that the band has are intended for runners. The range of features is large, even if it doesn’t reach the level of a Watch GT Runner, which gathers even more information. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to sync data with Google Fit. A way to sync the data with Strava should be in place later this year.
The activity goals presented by the Band 7 are clear.
A graphical overview of steps taken, movement time and active time can be found in the tracker. The smartband shows the day’s burned calories and distance traveled. The steps are broken down into different categories such as running, walking and climbing.
The parameters of the “Healthy Living” set are intended to ensure a healthy routine. Stress levels, sleep and wake times are also taken into account. The app can remind the user of outstanding goals if desired, and the categories are displayed in different colors. If the user hasn’t moved in a while, the band can provide a notification.
The Health app can be used to create exercise and running plans, with personal preferences and performance set. The app can remind you of training sessions. All data is marked and partly visualized in weekly and monthly reports that the app prepares. The data is compared to previous exercise periods.
Goals for a healthy daily routine can be found in theHealthy Living section.
The running ability index is a performance indicator.
We compared the heart rate readings of the Band 7 to the one of the H10 chest strap. The tracker’s resting heart rate deviates by 4.6% and the active heart rate deviates by 3.37%. The Watch GT 3 Pro is more accurate than the Honor Watch GS 3, but it is less accurate than the Watch GT 3.
Blood oxygen saturation values were compared with a reference device. The watch’s readings are always lower than those of the reference device, with the average deviation of 6.1%. No comparisons to other devices could be made because this measurement is new to our testing procedure.
The band’s heart rate is measured.
The heart rate measurement on the H10 chest strap.
The watch recognizes light, deep and REM-sleep phases, and wake times were recorded during our test. It’s necessary to consult the Health app to find out more about how long the sleeping time was when you woke up. There is a display of the various sleep phases, as well as the times and percentages. The software provides tips on how to improve sleep quality after analyzing the entire sleep period and individual phases. The watch didn’t use the sleep phase estimation for a smart alarm. The band can wake you up with a vibrating function, but only at set times.
The Huawei Band 7 supports the tracking of 96 different types of exercise, with six of these collecting more data or evaluating it more intensively, e.g. jogging or walking. Noticeably, outdoor cycling is missing from the collection. The tracker shows your pulse as a value as well as through a color scale during exercise. Additionally, you can track the distance, duration, burned calories, highest tempo, average speed, cadence, and stride length during walks. After set distances, such as after each kilometer or mile during a walk, the watch provides a summary of the last kilometer/mile and the training intensity is estimated.
If continuous movement is desired, the tracker can recognize it, and the display will ask if a workout recording should start. Ten minutes of continuous movement was needed for the question to pop up, but this feature worked well during testing. If no movement has been detected for several minutes, the software asks if a workout should be stopped.
The display is bright during a workout.
The Band 7 can’t establish a satellite connection because it doesn’t have a gps receiver. The Health app can connect to your phone’s data.
The structure is subpixel.
The display is one of the strengths of the tracker. The contrast is great and the blacks are perfectly black, even if the resolution is not as high as that of theHuawei’s watch. The sideways viewing angle of the tracker is better than the vertical one because of the lightly bent glass. There is a brightness sensor that is missing. The display is always legible in the sun, so this isn’t a big problem during the day. Since the brightness isn’t automatically reduced, the display can be blinding in dark rooms. The display produced a max brightness of 472 cd/m2 in our tests, and we measured relatively constant pulse-width modulations.
Screen flickering / PWM detected | 120.1 Hz | ![]() |
The display flickers at 120.1 hertz. The flickering may cause headaches and eyestrain, because the Frequency is very low. 52 percent of the tested devices don’t use PWM to dim the display. An average of 19773 (minimum: 5 – maximum: 380000) was measured if the PWM was detected. |
There isn’t any information on the built-in system or the memory. The device runs smoothly and stably, but there are slight delays when you switch between tiles on the screen. It can take a moment to change the display. The performance of the tracker isn’t as good as other, more expensive ones, but it is responsive.
The Band 7 lasts three days and nights without exercise tracking if all the sensors are on and it is worn 24 hours a day. If the always-on display is turned off, the mileage of the tracker goes up to seven days and nights. If the measurement frequencies of the sensors are reduced, the two weeks’ worth of battery life is possible. The device is charged by attaching metal contacts to the underside of the watch and using a charging cable. 55 minutes is the time it takes to charge from 10 to 100%.
Two metal pins are connected to the underside of the device to charge it.
+ Great OLED-Display
+ Extensive fitness features
It is possible to send short replies from the device.
– No GPS connection
There isn’t an ambient light sensor.
The Band 7 device was provided by Germany.
The Band 7 is a pleasant surprise, and it takes advantage of the capabilities of the existing Health app. The good display is always enjoyable to use. Even if the tracker’s battery life goes down, it has an always-on solution. The missing light sensor is disappointing but not horrible.
The Band 7 has nothing to be ashamed of, even though the measured values of the health parameters are not exactly best-in-class. The watch has to be used in conjunction with a phone for most workouts because of the missing satellite connection.
Those who can do without the independent satellite connection, phone calls and a metal housing should take a closer look at this Huawei tracker.
Even short replies are possible because the Band 7 gives a convincing performance on a daily basis with its reliable notifications. The Smart Band 7 falls in the same price range as the other possibilities. There is a built-in satellite connection and a bigger display in the Redmi Watch 2 lite.
60 is the price for the HUAWEI Band 7. The device was also available at the manufacturer’s website for 50 ($50), with all four colors currently available, at the time of writing. Amazon has a fitness tracker as well as other retailers.
