Chris Stapleton Tributes Vince Gill With Stunning Cover

Vince Gill was honored by many artists during a recent taping of a Giants episode. The country star paid homage to his friend and musical hero with a performance of “Whenever You Come Around.”

Gill’s friendship and belief in him have been crucial in his own musical journey, as evidenced by the emotional speech that Stapleton gave before his performance. Gill was an early champion in Nashville’s music scene, and the two men have been friends for many years.

“I don’t usually talk, but they asked me if I wanted to talk, and I said, ‘Yeah, I want to talk, for just a minute,'” he says in the clip below.

“I moved here wanting to be you, you’ve had the courage to encourage me, and you’ve always had time to come watch me play, or invite me on a writer’s colony,” he said. It’s made a difference. I love Vince from the bottom of my heart.

“Whenever You Come Around” was the lead single from Gill’s When Love Finds You album and gave him a No. 2 hit. Gill’s recording has a edgier vibe than the original one, but that is counterbalanced by the contrast between Gill’s soul and Stapleton’s blues.

Vince Gill was in Nashville for a taping at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. On Friday night, the show will air on the cable channel. Several artists turned up to honor Vince Gill.
