Ramone brought his brand of punk-rock to the store with his band.
It’s not often that you can see a Ramone in person. When it was announced that the Not Afraid tour would be coming to Limerick, I was more than happy to be a part of it.
Only four of the band’s original members are still alive, and one of them is the only one who wrote and composed all of the band’s songs. He was the only drummer in the band to sing lead vocals on two tracks, ‘You Can’t Say Anything Nice’ and ‘Elevator Operator’. Dee Dee Ramone and Joey Ramone were quoted as saying that “Richie saved the band as far as I’m concerned” despite only being in the band for five years. He’s the most important thing to happen to the group. The band was put back together by him.
The first Ramones album to go gold was the hit track “Somebody Put Something in My Drink”. He wrote tracks “Smash You”, “Humankind”, “I’m Not Jesus”, and “I Know Better Now”.
The drummer and vocalist left the band in 1987. He has been involved in the music scene for a long time and went solo and released two albums.
His latest single ‘Not Afraid’ gives the title to his current international tour, which is in his mid 60s.
On Wednesday, September 14, theme tune boy and The Dangerfields performed on the Dolan’s Warehouse stage.
The theme tune boy was the first band on the stage. The band kept moving from one track to the next. What they had to say was hilarious. The highlight of their setlist was ‘The Theme From Friends’, a track which talked about how much the band hated the opening song to the American sitcom ‘Friends’. The group was able to cross Drop Kick Murphy’s with a heavy punk sound. The band looked very cool and they had great guitar riffs and drums. You won’t regret it if you haven’t heard of them.
The Dangerfields are a band based in Northern Ireland. The band has gone through a lot of line-up changes, with resident Rob Karloff on guitar and guest bassists. This band has a stage presence. Griswold’s ability to play the drums and sing was amazing.
The three-piece were a lot heavier than I was expecting, with a true modern punk sound even though they’ve been around for a long time. They will be releasing a new album for the first time in 17 years in the coming weeks after playing a combination of tracks from their 2005 album Born To Rock. I will give the album a listen after their performance.
Richie Ramone took to the stage and the crowd went crazy. Houston, Texas’ Chris Moye was one of the other members of the band.
The first part of this century saw the formation of the band AntiProduct. She was a founding member of the UK all-girl Ramones tribute band The Ramonas. The multi-talented musician has a band called NOiZEE. The guitarist did his homework.
A vision of classic Ramones, the musician first shared the stage with a friend at his first US performance in Hollywood. After touring the USA and the world in numerous bands as a hired gun,Ronnie went on to joinRichie’s band in 2016
Chris Moye is the new drummer for the band. Chris was a member of many Houston Punk bands. The Bad Religion cover band included members of 30 Foot Fall and DieFast, a band from Tod Waters, founder of Spunk, and the fashion designer who wears Metly Cre.
It was clear that the enigmatic drummer/vocalist still has it when the punk-rockers opened with tracks from the Ramones. Simmons plays the guitar and Misstake plays the bass, and they both love what they do. Moye took over at this point so that he could get to the front of the stage. He thanked the fans and his support acts.
The band’s blend of Ramones and Richie’s solo work made it easy for everyone to sing along. As the band blasted into ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’, the roof lifted off the building. The icon let the crowd sing the chorus for him as he heard “Hey Ho, Let’s go.”
Simmons was messing with the bassist and guitarist at different times during the show. He is still jumping and dancing around the stage. The musician wrote a song called ‘The Last Time’ about a friend who died recently and it was performed by a respectful crowd.
I was not expecting to hear a punk cover of a band’s song at this gig. I was amazed. The cover makes the ’90s track sound heavier.
Simmons provided a much more metal sound with the help of vocals on the track ‘Animal Boy’.
With the crowd demanding an encore, the band returned to the stage for a final time, closing out their visit with ‘Not Afraid’ and ‘Sheena Is a Punk Rocker’.
The entire show was flawless. Richie’s vocals have aged like a fine wine, with incredible backing from out-of-this-world guitar by Simmons and Misstake. Moye filled in for one of the most well-known drummers of all time and he did a great job.
A lot of the set was spent interacting with fans, as well as giving hugs and shaking hands. The rock god took time after the show to chat with fans.
He is still very humble despite being a punk icon from one of the biggest bands of that time. It’s obvious how he made the mold that so many bands still follow, because of his amazing vocals and incredible musicianship.
He has two new singles, ‘Cry Little Sister’ and ‘Not Afraid’.
