How TikTok fame transformed Keenan Te’s career
How TikTok fame transformed Keenan Te’s career

Thanks for sparing the time in a busy time for you! Can you tell us a bit more about that?

I enjoy it! It’s great to talk to you. I was in LA for the first time in my life and I had a few photoshoots and a music video shoot. I had a lot of fun on the trip but it was very busy.

What did your musical journey look like before this point? Some of your earliest memories, what are they?

I have been a fan of music since I was a baby. When I was young, I pretended to play air guitar and air piano for my parents and their friends.

My parents have supported my love for music and put me into piano, guitar, and singing lessons when I was seven years old, so I am very thankful.

When did you begin to see music as a career option? What made that happen?

It turned into a career for me at the beginning of last year, but I have always wanted to be a musician. I released my song ‘Dependent’ in April 2021, thinking that not many people would listen to it, but the song went viral on TikTok immediately and then charted in over 10 countries, including the number one spot in Indonesia!

Music has been a full-time career for me since that song was released.

You have a great following on TikTok. Was it a conscious decision to move into the content creation area?

I would like to thank you. I thought it was a mix of both. I jumped onto TikTok because I used to post a few singing videos here and there in high school, so it was a natural thing for me to do.

I decided to use social media as a business project after seeing my first few videos on TikTok. I was intentional about how much I was posting and what I was doing.

I hit over one million followers in less than a year, which exceeded my expectations, but it was definitely intentional decisions and a lot of hard work that lead me up to that point.
