Monty Roberts wasQueen Elizabeth II’s horseman.
The queen invited the California cowboy to her stables at Windsor Castle in 1989. The quiet language of kindness was used to tame horses by Roberts.
Roberts said he thought she was a groom. I wanted to meet you. I walked back and exclaimed, “Oh my God.” You’re the queen! She said that last time she checked.
Their friendship spanned three decades and included handwritten letters and Christmas greetings. Roberts said Queen Elizabeth was younger than him.
He said he would call her “Her Majesty” but the friendship was deeper.
When asked if he ever thought about what a cowboy like him was doing hanging out with the queen, Roberts said only about two or three times a day.
Roberts will attend her funeral on Monday.
He did not want to let her go. She’s going to be with me all the time.
