Running is usually not the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the wordvacation. Running is the perfect form of exercise when you are travelling because it allows you to see and stay in shape.
There are five reasons you should pack a pair of trainers.
The perfect way to explore a new place
Running in a place you have never been lets you see a lot more than what you would see from a bus or walking around. It is a good way to learn where to go in a new city.
You are able to explore a city’s history, beaches, trails and everything in between. You can get in a hill workout and see the sights at the same time if you are in a hilly city like San Francisco. If you get up early you can see the sunrise.
It is an efficient way to get around
The more you use your legs, the less you need alternative transportation. One of my favorite things to do is to run to the beach, swim and run back, which is a great way of staying cool.
Great way to stay in shape
We don’t want you to do interval training, but you should stay in shape while on vacation. You won’t go home feeling bad if you completely neglect your training because your run doesn’t have to be as intense.
Immerse yourself in the local running community
If you want to find out if there are any run clubs on Strava or at the local running store, you can run the local parkrun. This is a great way to get to know people who are similar to you. You can find new places to eat and visit from the recommendations of local runners.
A local run group can help you find the best trails, routes, and runs in the area.
It looks cool on Strava
Whenever someone is in a unique place on my feed, I get a severe case of FOMO and instantly smash the kudos button.
Imagine being a local legend in Greece, or a CR in Australia. You should not be afraid to share landscape pictures of beaches, local eats and sunsets for some extra jealousy and praise.
